StructureCare Hosts First-Ever UK Safety Day

At StructureCare, safety is at the heart of everything we do — it shapes the way we work, the way we support each other, and the way we deliver for our clients. This September, our team proudly hosted the UK’s very first Safety Day, a milestone event under Tremco CPG’s global ‘Lead with Safety’ initiative. Designed to strengthen safety culture and provide extra support to our on-site teams, the day highlighted how awareness, training, and teamwork come together to keep everyone safe at work.

The day kicked off with two insightful presentations. Mardee Billingsley, Executive Vice President of Tremco Roofing, opened the event by sharing an overview of the business as a whole and its recent successes. She highlighted the importance of initiatives like Safety Day in building a stronger, more unified culture:

“Safety isn’t just something we do; it’s something we live. Days like this bring us together to learn, share, and remind ourselves that every individual plays a vital role in keeping our teams safe. I’m proud to see the UK lead the way with its first Safety Day.” — Mardee Billingsley, Executive Vice President, StructureCare

Following this, Rob Ellis, HSE Manager at StructureCare, introduced the plan for the day and outlined new initiatives designed to support our internal on-site teams with health and safety best practices. He reinforced the importance of making safety engaging and accessible:

“Our goal is to embed safety into everything we do — not as a tick-box exercise, but as a culture. Safety Day is about giving our teams the confidence, tools, and mindset to work safely, while also creating an environment where everyone feels supported.” — Rob Ellis, HSE Manager, StructureCare

Inspired by Safety Week in the US, the event brought together colleagues, partners, and expert vendors for a packed programme of interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and thought-provoking sessions. The result? A day that was not only highly informative but also engaging and memorable for all involved.

What the Day Entailed

The day featured contributions from five trusted vendors and advocates, each bringing their unique expertise to the table:

  • Hilti: Delivered a hands-on workshop that built confidence in using Hilti tools. The session placed strong emphasis on safe handling and correct usage, giving teams both knowledge and practice.
  • Eagle Platforms: Demonstrated safe working at height with two common access platforms — a scissor lift and a cherry picker — enhanced with an immersive VR experience.
  • HAVI: Focused on demystifying Hand-Arm Vibration (HAV) risks, highlighting practical ways to reduce exposure and protect long-term health.
  • Andy’s Man Club: A mental health advocate delivered a session mirroring the free weekly drop-in groups offered nationwide. Their work supports men’s suicide prevention, sparking open conversations that remind us safety isn’t just physical — it’s mental and emotional too.
  • Arco: Arco supported the event, providing product advice and being on hand to talk to our teams about goods or services that they deliver to us. Arco also provided giveaways and ran a competition to highlight the different dexterity levels when using PPE gloves in the field, inviting people to undertake a Rubix Cube assessment whilst wearing gloves.
  • Rob Ellis, StructureCare H&S: Safety Day wasn’t all theory. Teams took part in a light-hearted but meaningful team-building exercise: removing “toxic liquid” from a marked zone using improvised props, without spilling a drop. It was a creative way to put problem-solving and collaboration to the test — skills just as important on-site as in the classroom.

Partnerships That Make a Difference

Another standout element of the day was the branding around the event. Fence banners, t-shirts, and other giveaways were all produced through the printing facilities at the local prison. The partnership between Tremco and the prison based near HQ in Sheffield is part of our international ‘Elevate’ programme. The overall programme provides skills training to prisoners, helping them transition into employment upon release. It’s a relationship that continues to flourish, reinforcing our belief in second chances and sustainable community impact.

A Step Forward in Safety

By blending practical training, interactive sessions, and mental health advocacy, the event showed that we can take safety seriously while still making it an enjoyable and engaging experience.

Most importantly, it underlined the core message of Tremco CPG’s Lead with Safety initiative: safety is a shared responsibility. It’s about looking out for ourselves, our colleagues, and our communities — on-site and beyond.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and made the day such a success. Together, we’re building not only safer structures but also a stronger safety culture across our teams.
