Client: Teesside University
Project start: March 2021
Project duration: 4 weeks
StructureCare is delighted to be undertaking a full roof waterproofing scheme at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA). Located in Centre Square, Middlesbrough, since 2007 operating as an art museum and gallery, it has been run since 2014 by Teesside University and is a creative resource and cultural hub for MIMA School of Art & Design.
StructureCare was appointed after a tender process undertaken by Teesside University.
In an impressive contemporary building rising 16.5 metres and clad in Turkish limestone, MIMA’s current single-ply roofing system has lost its elasticity over time and the often-inclement North East weather has left the roof in need of specialist attention ahead of the gallery’s reopening.
We are pleased to be bringing our expertise to such a prestigious structure and, with the application of TOR coating’s Elastaseal Z, we will provide a waterproof system to see one of Middlesbrough’s iconic buildings stand up to the elements for another 20 years!
As with all StructureCare projects, we have already carried out all pre-start site testing and are now ready to get going! We cannot wait to share project updates and photographs as the scheme progresses.
